I think this video gives more insight into why Dave Canterbury was asked to leave, after it was discovered that he wasn't actually an Army Ranger. Cody mentions that the show was meant to pair up his primitive skills with an ex-military special ops guy, and since Dave wasn't, it compromised the show's original philosophy.
Here's Discovery's promo video introducing Joe Teti:
The new season will air on Discovery Channel with a one hour special on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, airing at 8PM E/P. Directly following the special, the first episode of Dual Survival season three, “Mars on Earth” premieres at 9 PM E/P.

I'm definitely looking forward to checking out season 3 with Joe Teti.
Happy New Years everyone!
Happy New Years everyone!
Happy New Year! Thanks for the great information.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the new season!!! To bad about Dave, they made a good team. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat WTF please bring back Dave this is bullshit I'm not watching a show ever again
ReplyDeleteI already miss Dave
ReplyDeleteI agree. Dave was the polar opposite of Cody and he made the show more interesting. BRING DAVE BACK! Please ; )
DeleteThis is bullshit bring dave back he was the best.
ReplyDeleteI am already done hearing about Joe and his freaking resume every time he does a skill. I'm did time in specops and I really can't take an hour of sword fighting that these two do. I'll take Dave any day.
ReplyDeleteI can't hear Joe's freaking resume one more time whenever he does a skill. To much sword fighting. Dave made a better partner and Dave wasn't so full of himself. I spent 12 years in specops Joe is legite but constantly talking about how great he is is getting real old real fast. Bring Dave back. I'm done watching already.
ReplyDeleteDave was the better half of the show. Bring him back!
ReplyDeleteComplete fucking bullshit bring Dave back
ReplyDeleteYeah I miss dave too and and think he was better...but I'm gunna give this guy a shot, plus ive only seen one new episode so far. But i am gunna watch the season anyways because Cody is the bomb and I learn something new almost every show.
ReplyDeleteThe new episode seemed like it was shot in 1 day. The skipped over parts like when they were going to sleep in the canyon. All of a sudden it jumped to them walking and left out the entire night. I hope that's not the new format. I hope the rest of the episodes are done like the previous seasons and take place over multiple days n nights. Otherwise it's just another crappy fake reality show! Boo
ReplyDeleteDave was the best if this show... This new joe guy is pathethic and stuck up a&& w#%. The show is no good anymore ratings will deff drop
ReplyDeleteDave and Cody were the team that all of the viewers have a vested emotional tie too. I think the Discovery Channel should have done more home work before making a bonehead decision like this. They'll "Discover" too late when ratings drop.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know what Dave's qualifications actually were. Regardless, they made a great team and worked so well together. Ratings are ratings. They gave nothing to do with resumes. They deal in reality. 'Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteDave and codey not codey and some dude that is standard issue. If i wanted to listen to x spec opps guys talk i would take a trip on post.
ReplyDeleteI'm an ex-British Army Infantry soldier, with one tour of Afghanistan. Not some underwater knife fighting spec ops ninja but I've done more than my fair share... enough to be proud of anyway, it's a shame Dave can't say the same about his own service without feeling the need to "tart it up".
ReplyDeleteI've never felt the need to lie and embellish my service. Having said that, some people take it way too seriously. No-one really cares that much. Trust me, lots of soldiers I know have embellished their service, especially when there's gullible young women around.
A random contact with perhaps 100 shots fired becomes the first day of the Somme. Spending a few weeks in the Brecon Beacons becomes "survival training with the SAS". The mention in dispatches for keeping the sanger tidy becomes a "gallantry medal". You get the idea.
The question we should be asking is whether or not Dave was a good TV host? And did he know his stuff? I would have to say "yes" to both the aforementioned questions.
I think Cody's coming off in a bad light. Someone who's petty. And if he's so impressed by military service, and if he sees it as the be all and end all of bushcraft, why didn't he sign up himself?
First of all you're British and the 'culture' is way different over here in the US. Actually there arw many cultures here that have served in thw military.
DeleteAlso, yourself being an ex-grunt, should know that SOF is very different than the Big Army when it comes to how they see their life. Yes, for as long as they're serving with their team, that is their life. A professional soldier.
Just caught part of the first episode for season 3. Probably not going to watch any more. Let me get this straight, the networks (who constantly have extremely creative editing) had an issue with Dave embellishing his resume. It also took them 2 years to put their foot down on this. Shouldn't they have verified resumes prior to taping the show. Pretty impressive how they took the moral high ground.
ReplyDeleteBull $hit..... moral high ground....They don't know the meaning
DeleteGoldenBum, thanks for comment. I understand what you're saying, but I think there's a big difference between a guy telling "war stories" to strangers at a bar, as opposed to someone who intentionally impersonates an Army Airborne Ranger in a professional format in order to gain fame and fortune.
ReplyDeleteLol, I haven't heard the term "standard issue" to describe a soldier in while. Cheers, Jason
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy Dave Canterbury and he was knowledgeable in his view of survival, and I do understand how people can develop a type of hero worship for these people. I think that the change will be great for Dual Survival as it should definitely show a blend of primitive skills and current military wisdom in the area of survival. It should be great If people can give themselves time to get used to the new team dynamics.
ReplyDeleteGood point John, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI watched the new show and it was good. Joe is definitely the real deal (altho I enjoyed Dave's shows much more).
ReplyDeleteWhat I hate about this is the seeming military worship that goes along with the change. Seeing all the gun work, target practice, etc has almost nothing to do with survival in the wilderness.
If our country wasn't run by war mongers and murdering liars at the top, he would never have been to Afghanistan to begin with.
Don't turn this great show into just another war-worshiping propaganda outlet. We already have plenty of those.
Amen to that buelha man
DeleteI bet Cody didn't think it could get worse than Dave. Dave was opposite Cody but he was a compromising and not so extreme. Cody has always been extreme. Now, you got Joseph who is extreme, too. So anyway, I expect to see some clashing. Also, Joseph is hyper tension or something, and I expect he'll be more will to tell Mrs. America Lundin to go to hell.
ReplyDeleteI'll be surprised if Duel Survival manages to air every show they've already shot before it's cancelled.
ReplyDeleteNoreflection on the new guy, really hope they didn't let Dave go for ratings. In general not necessary to show actual killing of animals
ReplyDeleteI agree about showing the slaughter of a live animal. I think it crossed the line, especially with so many kids watching the show.
ReplyDeleteMan, I think watching an animal die is nothing now, especially because he explained why. Not like that wild piggy was suffering or anything, I killed a 'small' one when it went heads up with my dog and I'll tell you it suffered because it just wouldn't die and I was stabbing hearts necks and ultimately guts. : (
DeleteI realize that emotions are running high right now, but kids who are fans of the show come here to visit, so keep the foul language out of your comments or they will be deleted.
ReplyDeletehoping these comments make it to the shows backers or advertising decision makers.
ReplyDeleteI really miss Dave. I also didn't realize how much of an ass Cody is, such an egotistical mrs. know it all. I will tune into see the new guy kick the shit out of Cody if Cody keeps talking down to him. I am however done with this show and my predictions is it lasts one season two tops. Start a new show with Dave and a celebrity guest doing duel survival and my family and I will watch. One new episode and even my kids don't like Cody. Goodluck Dave you will be missed, Cody your an ass, maybe will all get lucky and you won't make it back next trip.
ReplyDeletesincerely,
never missed a show or rerun!
Great idea. My family and I would watch Dave in his own show.
DeleteLol
ReplyDeleteHappy New Years Brandon!
Thanks, Happy New Year to you and the rest of the crew
ReplyDeleteI got my DVR set. I'm looking forward to the new season.
ReplyDeleteI have to say though, I think Cody could learn a thing or two from me if I was on the show...I know just when to turn the bacon in a cast iron skillet. That kind of skill can't be taught...you just know... :)
If wasn't for Cody's whole "walking barefoot" thing, I think he would have much more credibility.
ReplyDeleteI think much people give him sh!t because he sounds like a Mr. Know it All, but I see his point. For him, the show is about teaching people how to survive in adverse situations. So, in that regard, he is a teacher, if he sees someone doing something stupid, he will point it out.
The problem is that both Dave and this new guy don't know their shit or simply aren't talking the show seriously. We all know it's basically a make believe and probably that "piss" he drank is just water someone gave him. So, Dave and Joe simply use this to make the show more edgy or whatever, while Cody, obviously, wants to use it as a teaching platform.
Being quite honest with you guys, I've learn a lot from Cody. But I can't recall much that I've learned from Dave. Not that Dave wasn't amazing, he was very cool to watch, pretty ballsy... But you know, teaching? Cody.
Interesting point Ratone, thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Joe drink his piss he was not in a life or death situation .I want Dave back
ReplyDeleteWhy did Joe drink his piss he was not in a life or death situation and that was stupid .bring Dave back he does not do dumb SHIT like that
ReplyDeleteWhy did Joe drink his piss he was not in a life or death situation .I want Dave back
ReplyDeleteYou guys need to chill. I didn't even notice the new guy was new! It's TV; get over it. Probably no one knows why the other guy left.
ReplyDeleteSince Dave left i have learned nothing. Joe and Cody fight and bitch. It show is now Dual Circle Jerk. They have no respect for each other and it shows on tv. It's time to shut the show down. Elvis has left the building. Turn the lights off.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand the contrived arguments and constant bitching between the two. Why do the producers feel that this makes for a more interesting show? I won't keep watching, the new set up sucks.
ReplyDeleteCody is exceptional and Dave was very good. Joe will work out and I like the friction Cody and him have, I also like the respect Joe has for Cody's talents. Looking forward to another great season.
ReplyDeleteTeti (RHYMES with JEDI!) seems like Coca Cola...he's "The Real Thing!"
ReplyDeleteI'm personally very happy to be watching a new season of dual survival. Although i enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 very much, I can understand the philosophy behind the cast shake up if it is indeed factual. For me, Cody makes this show. His primitive survival skills and worldly views mirror mine much more closely than the military side of the show. That being said, it is the mix of the two sides that makes this show so great.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with other viewers, don't edit out so much of the good stuff. In episode one i wanted to see Cody laugh at Joe for his pitiful fire in the middle of the night in the canyon, instead it was entirely edited out.
I totally agree! this new guy Joe, knows his crap, as does Cody... BUT, mark my words- I guarentee Joe was involved and helped kill Bin Laden, just the way he said or 'didn't say' some things so Cody needs to chill and share some of the spot light with Joe more....
ReplyDeleteTo me the first two seasons of the show were the best with Dave. He and Cody were a good team. This season is not so interesting and funny. The two are at log a heads. It is more real with people who were not in the military although it is good. But people in the military have never been in any area where the are without food or their weapons. They always have both or either one. we need to see like real scenes of what someone would really do if they never have military skills.
ReplyDeleteActually that is wrong. That was the whole idea, a 'normal' civilian who is knowledgable, together with a highly trained soldier. The attitudes and clashes were supposed to be there since day one but that didn't happen for two seasons. Would you know the difference between surviving by yourself or with a group, AND surviving while also evading an enemy who is trying to kill you? that is what a special operations soldier knows and is taught. Combined with a civilian's knowledg and experiences was what this show was supposed to be. People get used to characters and that's why you have so many in love with Dave. If you don't like it no one is forcing you, but please don't disrespect anyone.
DeleteI liked Dave! I think he is getting the short end of the stick. My entire family is disappointed that he is gone. Tisk. Tisk.
ReplyDeleteBring Dave back please ?
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you this. I worked in special operations for many years. This dude Joe, has either forgot everything he was ever taught, or he was worked in special operations. First; you never rush through an area you are not familiar with. Cody was right on about that point. you move with a good pace, but never the with caution to the wind.
ReplyDeleteSecond; Joe, if he did work with special operations, would have always had the equipment to carry out the mission. He would never hav been without the peoper equipment. Cody is a one who survies with the bare minimum amounts of equipment. Joe would never make it without some amount of proper equipment. He is just cashing in a the fact he is being paid to act tough. Any team member that I was fortunate enogh to work with, would run his ass into the ground. Such a lame piece of crap! LOL!!!
Cool story James... You must have forgot the training you received before ever joining a group or team. You also would remember the sacrifices you had to make to have such equiptment you're talking about. Someone who has been there in a survival situation will probably never ever get caught dead without certain tools and equiptment on his body. Lol, riiiight.
DeleteI Miss Dave!! ..... hey everyone does that crap.... the point is the show worked with Cody and Dave. I loved watching it! I dont care for the new guy, probably will not continue watching...sorry Cody dude, it just isnt the same. Hey get a new show for Dave and one for Cody...Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis is a survival show not a military tactics show, Joe has no clue about survival stratagie, and is more of a nagging wife than Cody, we want DAVE back SOOONNN. Nobody cares about Daves past endevers, I'm from the Appalachian Mountains and Dave is a familiar face.
ReplyDeleteUmmm yeah Just for info purposes Im 47 yr old female... I've been watching the show, but am now done. I liked Dave. Don't care for Cody. I also know that military "records" aren't always all that there was to the military service. My husband served for almost 21 yrs. You don't always get credit for all the things you've done. Discovery really needs to look at themselves and rethink their decisions. Nothing against the new guy, but I'm done.
ReplyDeleteDave is the survival king!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDave or nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Miss Dave. Don't care for this guy.
ReplyDeleteBeing in the military doesnt make you a "badass" nor a master survivalist. Dave knows his shit when it comes to staying alive and well fed in nature and I thought that is what this show was supposed to be about. I have been around lots of spec ops guys NONE of which acted as stupid as Joe. Since when did wild boars become a "force protection" issue? So Joe has a great resume for combat and is in a show that has nothing to do with war? Stupid move Discovery channel...............
ReplyDeleteWow, you didn't understand the kind of show Discovery wanted to have in the first place, and you obviously underestimate wild animals, notice the 'wild' part. Talk about stupid, oh well.
DeleteAs a 24 year retired army dude, I have as much respect for Joe as anyone could possibly have; and considering where we both come from, I know he'll understand. Cody and Dave were more entertaining, more believable, more educational, and a great deal more laughs..... Sorry Joe, I'll always have your 180, but some of us just aren't meant to be in front of a camera. DOL :)
ReplyDeleteThis new guy is a pushy idiot doesn't listen and even disrespected Cody and I think he believes himself to be more knowledgeable and often puts Cody down but hey you deserve it Cody cus you lost Dave Canterbury the show was better with him at least it wasn't like watching two house wife's have a cat fight.
ReplyDeleteThis is so trunDle you suck Dave and Cody rule.
ReplyDelete
